Kelso Run Project
Kelso Run Project Postponed until the Spring
Due to delays in obtaining the permit required to do the work, the Kelso Run project must be delayed until the Spring. Work cannot be performed during the Fall spawn in order to protect the brook trout.

- Site selection and installation of temperature monitoring and other gauges on the lower river
- Discuss the engineer’s proposal for modifications to the paper mill dam in Tyrone to allow for fish passage up into the Bald Eagle, a tributary of the J.
- Brook trout habitat improvement project project on Kelso Run . We’ll need volunteers. Scheduled for week of September 11th.
- Dennis Johnson of Juniata College will update us on the 2017 brown trout behavior study.
- Report on the Director’s review of the LJRA ‘s goals and projects
LJRA wins conservation award
LJRA received a $5,000 Western Pennsylvania Environmental Award for excellence in advancing the environmental quality of western Pennsylvania. We thank Celina Seftas, District Manager of the Huntingdon County Conservation District, for encouraging us to apply for this award and help with the application. The monies will be applied to ongoing conservation and water monitoring projects.

telemetry study
Attention fisherman: telemetry study underway
Juniata College, in partnership with the LJRA, is repeating the brown trout telemetry study. So far 40 transmitters have been placed. If you catch a trout with a transmitter wire (see photo), please return it to the water and handle as gently as possible. Obtain a picture if possible and report the location and date caught as well as any observations about the health of the fish. Email the information ([email protected]) or call 814 684 5922. This is great way for you to participate in the study.
