    This coming Wed. we will tie the Fluttering Early Black Stonefly (Carl’s request). We see this bug on the river as early as mid-January, on warm (above 40 degrees) afternoons (see Black Stonefly Chap. in “Trout Boomer “.  With my broken knee still in therapy, I will have to stick to the few places where I can cast from the bank (assuming it warms up).

    The materials for this fly (my pattern) are:
    Hook – # 16 dry fly , Daiichi 1100, TMC 100 or equivalent
    Thread – 6/0 Black
    Body – Black/Yellow Squirrel blend (or any black dry fly dubbing )
    Wing – Dk Brown over-wing and medium grey under-wing (Poly Pro)
    Antennae – Horse hair or cemented black thread
    I will also tie wooly buggers with our beginners.
    As always I will supply the above materials as needed.
