J fly patterns
We are looking to increase the number of patterns posted on the site. Members can submit their patterns via email to: ljraweb [at] gmail.com. Please include photographs (<0.5MB) and information on hook, materials and notes on how to tie. They don’t have to be new, just what you tie and works on the J. Videos welcome too! The best way to contribute a video is to upload it to youtube or vimeo and email me a link to embed the video.
The fly of the month is Bill’s little black stonefly imitation.
Expect to see these on warms days in February.
Fly of month- Bass flies
With the extremely low water conditions and a non-stop heat wave in place (we have 7 more days of temps in the high 80s to mid 90s coming!), it is appropriate that the fly of the month be something used to catch bass. I recently went back to fishing for bass and its good way to get your fly fishing fix while protecting the resource. The Upper Juanita and Raystown branch are great places to start and fishing can be done with a 6wt. No need to tie many exotic flies or buy new materials. Heavily hackled wollybuggers and other streamers are quite effective. Give it a shot and give our trout a rest! Visit the fly of the month page for a materials list. Found this adult perla stonefly on the middle river between Spruce Creek and the Grier school. Stoneflies are sensitive to water quality and seeing them upstream is a great sign.
Bill caught this Green Drake (Ephemera Gutulata) last evening on the J. It emerged in his hand! See the fishing report in the forum.

This little beauty landed on me this weekend on the upper J where Sandy Run enters near Pinecroft. Quite a few were in the air. Signs that the upper J is rebounding?
